The Cultural Fragments series focuses on a combination of crossword puzzles related to the vastly heterogeneous cultures of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries of the world. Each painting is an interpretation of an individual country or group of countries that have certain geographic or socio-historic similarities.  The ideas behind fragmentation refers not only to the visual aspect of the piece itself, but also to the pieces of information provided by the clues, which are to lead one to the puzzle’s answers. The clues themselves provide bits of cultural information about the specific country in the painting. While it may be read as a didactic work, Cultural Fragments seeks to break the stereotype of Latin-American homogeneity (or should I say: the stereotypical homogeneity given to Latin America); break the cookie-cutter and show the individualities of each country.
